This Made Me Laugh
I was joking just the other day that Google must think I’m a serial killer and then I saw this. Love it! I’ve mentioned before that Google is your friend when you are writing. You can find almost anything and everything with Google. And, although I look forward to the day I’ll be able to afford to go abroad on a research trip, in the meantime I have Google streetview to show me around any potential locales for future books.
Countdown to Dead and Kicking
Woo Hoo! One! One day to the release of Dead and Kicking. Thanks for sticking with me. Do you have your copy ordered yet?
Ghosts play an important role in Harry’s story. She can see and speak to them and often finds herself face to face with a reluctant spectre. Here is a bit more information about ghosts and how they fit into Harry’s world.
Spirits can linger after death. They don’t necessarily have unfinished business; sometimes they just decide they don’t want to leave, or they get confused and just don’t ‘go into the light’.
Ghosts are electrical. They require energy to exist usually absorbing it from their surroundings. That’s why ghosts are more prevalent now than 50 years ago. There is more electrical energy leaking into the atmosphere because of all our electronic devices. A ghost’s ability to solidify can be enhanced by a medium’s ability to channel energy to the spirit.
A hand-held Taser is a great way to make a ghost temporarily dissipate.
To get rid of a ghost you need a medium to banish the spirit. Some practitioners have intricate rituals but really you just need the ‘supernatural juice’ to do it – it doesn’t matter what you say or do, you just have to have the psychic push to dislodge them and send them on their way.

Something to Ponder ;-)
Found this little gem somewhere on my travels through the internet. Appears the credit goes to Debbie Ohi. Thanks!
Hmmmm…Do they still call it French kissing in France?
The short answer is ‘No’.
Believe it or not (and you should believe it because it’s true – I read it on the internet and blatantly ripped off for this post) for centuries, there was no official French word for the sloppy Gallic export we know as the ‘French kiss’. Of course that certainly never stopped them from doing it. But in May 2013, this huge omission was rectified when the one-word verb ‘galocher‘ – to kiss with tongues – was added to the ‘Petit Robert’ 2014 French dictionary.
It may surprise you that France – a country famed for its amorous exploits and which gave the world sex-symbol Brigitte Bardot and romantic photographer Robert Doiseau – is only just linguistically embracing the popular pastime, but Laurence Laporte of the Robert publishing house says that it’s just the way language evolves.
“We always had many expressions to describe “French-kissing,” like “kissing at length in the mouth,” but it’s true, we’ve never had one single word.”
The term ‘French kiss’ – once also called a ‘Florentine kiss’ – is popularly considered to have been brought back to the English-speaking world by soldiers returning from Europe after World War I. At the time, the French had a reputation for more adventurous sexual practices.
‘Galocher’ is a slang term that’s been around for a while but only now is it being officially recognized in the French dictionary. Derived from ‘la galoche’, the word for an ice-skate, the new term riffs evocatively on the idea of sliding around the ice.
Think about that, next time you’re wrapped around your sweetie, tangling tongues.
So next time you’re sweet talking your amour try Voulez-vous galocher avec moi?
