There, now that the housekeeping is out of the way, where was I? Oh yeah….Ahhhh, summer. I don’t know about you, but summer is one of my favourite seasons, especially because it means there will be time to relax with a good book (or two, or three, or ten).

For me, summer also means time at the cottage. It is my favourite place, full of memories of a well-spent childhood and time with family. I’m lucky to have grown up in ‘cottage country’. Manitoba may be boring and flat and our winters harsh, but when it comes to lakes and cottage life, there’s no better place to be.

I love being by the water. There’s something about the sound of the waves washing up against the shore, the cool breeze that always seems to come off the lake and the feeling of sand between my toes.

The beach is a gathering place. Each year at the start of summer, you renew friendships with the folks at the beach – people you never see in your every day life back in the city, but who become a regular part of lake life. Maybe you trade stories of how cold the winter was or catch up on what everyone’s kids are doing, maybe you just give them a friendly nod. Whatever the case, there is a camaraderie there, a sense of community. I can’t think of a better place to be in the summer.

How about you? What do you like to do in the summer? Is there any special place you visit? A traditional summer activity? Let me know in the comments below and you’ll be entered to win a copy of my contemporary romance, Home Again.

Home AgainThey say you can’t go home again.  Allie Daniels hopes they are wrong, whoever they are.  After a series of misfortunes, she and her small son have come home to the town she thought she had left behind.  She’s just looking for a safe place to raise her son.  The last thing she wants is any more complications.

Mike Finn didn’t roll into town on his Harley looking for love; he just wants to find a place to call home.  Hoping to escape the fast-paced, anonymous life in the city, he’s bought a partnership in the local veterinarian practice.  The small town has a lot to offer – especially after a chance encounter with Allie.

When Mike first sets eyes on Allie, sparks fly.  He knows there’s something there, but the reluctant, single mom is going to take some convincing.  Good thing Mike is a persistent man.  When strange things start to happen around town, his protective instinct is sent into high gear.  It’s just as well, because when Allie starts playing detective, she may find herself in over her head.

Kick Off Your Summer

beautiful-nature-wallpaperSummer is just getting started and boy has it been hectic already. So far I’ve had a book launch, a road trip and tomorrow the graduation (for my son) festivities begin. Once we get grad all wrapped up I’m looking forward to a more laid back summer schedule, maybe even a chance to finally get some writing done. What about you? What are your summer plans?

I have one suggestion. Why not kick off your summer with the Crazy Canuck Canada Day Blog Hop?  It’s just a couple of days away (starts on July 1st). We have great group of authors and each is offering up a chance to win a prize for those visiting their blogs. There’s also a grand prize draw with lots of opportunities to enter.  Check out all the details HERE and we’ll see you at the hop!

The Secret is Out

If you have been to my Pinterest boards at all, you might have noticed that there was one called ‘Top Secret’. Well, the cat is out of the bag.

I kept the name of this board under wraps because I didn’t want to give away the name of Harry’s new coffee shop. Now that Deadlocked is available, and since I blogged about it yesterday, I figured it was time to update the board and reveal its name.

Check out the Full Fat Coffee Company’s Recipes board on Pinterest.  There you will find recipes for things Harry and Isaac might decide to serve in the shop: Soups, sandwiches, baked goods. Yum! I’m getting hungry just thinking about them all.

Bon Appétit!

Harry’s Coming Out!

No, not out of the closet. I’m not even referring to the fact that Deadlocked is coming out on Monday. What I mean is that Harry is attending her first (and probably last) cotillion.

Hosted by fellow author, Romarin Demetri, the Supernatural London Underground character cotillion event starts today and runs over the weekend. Harry has been entered in the “best dressed” competition and you can help out by visiting the event and voting for her.

There’s a great list of authors participating:

Tabitha Barret (The Third Throne)
J.S. Burke (Dragon Dreamer)
Romarin Demetri (The Supernatural London Underground)
Lisa Emme (The Harry Russo Diaries)
J.L. Gribble (Steel Empires)
Debbie Manber Kupfer (P.A.W.S.)
K.W. Taylor (The Red Eye)

The poll opens at 10pm EST June 4th and closes Monday June 6th at the stroke of midnight. There are also some great prizes up for grabs so visit the Facebook event page HERE and don’t forget to vote!

Having never attended a cotillion or even been entered in a “best-dressed” event, I couldn’t help but wonder what Harry would wear. Here are a couple possibilities. Which do you think Harry would pick? Vote for ‘red’ or ‘pink’ in the comments below.

Guess Where I’m Going!

That’s right, I’m heading across the pond to jolly old England for a bit of romp around London with my son. We’re looking forward to seeing the sights.  We’re also going to see the Lion King at the famous Lyceum Theatre and take part in the Harry Potter Experience at Warner Brothers studios (which I admit, I might actually be more excited about than the kid).

While I’m gone, I’ve set up a few scheduled posts here, but if you want to follow my adventures, check out my Facebook page and Instagram where I’ll try to post daily.

Happy Star Wars Day!

It’s May the fourth….Star Wars Day. Get it??

As you probably know, Harry is a big fan of Star Wars. I think she’d be celebrating today with her well-worn copies of Episodes IV, V and VI, a huge bowl of buttery popcorn, and of course, her partner in crime, Tess.  Or maybe they might have already rushed out and bought their copy of Force Awakens. I can almost hear the arguments now over which movie was better A New Hope or Force Awakens. What do you think?

Fun Friday

There seems to be a bit of theme this week…

Thor is a jerk

That’s going to be some YouTube video. Does that last bit with the scissors mean what I think it means?

Are You a Polyvore?

I’m not particularly a girly-girl, so I’ve had to resort to the internet to get wardrobe ideas when writing (I could really use a personal shopper like Salvador uses to dress Harry). One of my favourite sites to find the latest in high-end formal dress is Harrod’s. They have a great website and I have relied on it heavily to find outfits for Harry’s adventures. A new site I have recently discovered, is Polyvore. I’m a complete newbie and I’m sure I’m not going to be hired as a fashionista any time soon, but even I have to admit, it’s kind of fun to pull together outfits.  I’ve created a few for Harry. Check them out!
