Did you know that I’m on Pinterest?

Did you ever wonder what some of the things I describe in my books look like?

Visit Pinterest and you can get a closer look and see.

What did the McQueen dress in Dead and Kicking look like? How about some of the planters Harry might put together for her shop, Contain Yourself? And we can’t forget all the yummy things Harry keeps pinning because she wants Isaac to make them. There’s even a Top Secret Board that will be revealed with the release of Deadlocked, the third book in the Harry Russo Diaries. They are all there to be found on Pinterest on one of my boards.

With Home Again about to come out, why not check out the Home Again Prop Gallery ? There’s a killer recipe there for Strawberry Cheesecake tarts.  Yum!

Happy Ground Hog Day!

Living where I do, in the middle of the Canadian prairies, Ground Hog day has always confused me. You see, where I live, winter is very long, counted in months, not weeks. At the beginning of February, we are usually still looking at a minimum of six more weeks of winter. At a minimum! So, when the local ground hog sees his shadow on February 2nd, I can never understand why that’s a bad thing. Where I live, only having six more weeks of winter at the beginning of February would be fantastic.  So really, either way, we win.  If he doesn’t see his shadow, early spring, yippee! If he does see his shadow, only six more weeks of winter equals early spring, yippee!

For the rest of you, living in warmer climes where six more weeks of winter would actually mean a longer winter, my condolences if the little varmint saw his shadow today.  Not to worry though, if he did, Harry’s BFF, Tess, has taken care of the problem.

BREAKING NEWS!

Well, certainly didn’t see this coming when I wrote my post a few days ago, but it seems ‘Winnipeg Willow’ the local rodent with aspirations of being a meteorologist passed away just days before Ground Hog Day.  Not really sure what that means for our winter, but I’m thinking if the ground hog dies, it can’t be a good thing.  Better start stocking up on books and hot chocolate!

When the Spirit Moves You

My muse is a fickle…uh, {insert not nice word that my mother would disapprove of here}. After spending the last few months learning the ropes of marketing the two books I have currently published, I have been chomping at the bit to be writing again.

How people picture a writer’s muse

The ideas are whirring around in my head and although I had originally thought Harry’s story was a trilogy, it turns out there is more to tell. The story for book four is there.  In my head. The problem is, it won’t come out, or rather, it may be ready to come out, but another idea spoke louder, or was pushier and cut in line and got out first.

So now I find myself writing something completely different than I intended, but don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining (well, maybe a little).  Writing is writing and I love it. I love thinking through the scenes, plotting them in my mind, listening to my characters speak to me and writing it all down.  I love how I can close my eyes and my characters come alive.  It’s like having the best TV show ever in my head, all the time.  Of course, that can also have a downside because it’s like having the best TV show ever in my head, all the time, like at 3 AM when I should be sleeping because I have to get up and go to work at my actual paying job (you know, the one that keeps a roof over my head and my kid’s hollow leg fed) so that I can have the leisure time to write about the TV show in my head.  Whew!

It doesn’t help that I’m a night owl and I get my best work done in the evening.  I can be
dead on my femy museet at 6pm but by 9pm? I’m wide awake and my muse is tapping me on the shoulder impatiently.  I can’t deny her. When the urge to write is there, I feel compelled to listen, frantically typing out the words in my head as if it will relieve the pressure. And, maybe in a way it does.  As the ideas take form and the words hit the paper, I’m freeing up space inside my brain for more ideas to grow.

So I’ll keep writing when the muse is upon me, even if it isn’t what I intended to be writing about.  I’m just grateful to be writing and have the chance to share my words with you.

Happy New Year!

It’s New Year’s Eve. Time to say goodbye to 2015.

As usual, looking back, it feels like the year just flew by. For me, it was a year of both highs and lows. I guess that’s really always the case, although some years seem more of a rollercoaster ride than others. It’s a sappy cliché, but it’s also true – without the lows, I probably wouldn’t appreciate the highs as much.  So while I really could do without the lows (especially the ones from this year), I would hate for my life to be a plateau with no thrills at all, and the lows are what made me strive for the highs.

A few months ago someone very dear to me posted a quote attributed to Mark Twain on Facebook and it resonated deeply with me:

Twenty years from now
you will be more disappointed
by the things you didn’t do
than by the ones you did.
So throw off the bowlines,
Sail away from the safe harbour.
Catch the trade winds in your sails.
Explore. Dream. Discover.

So that’s my wish for you for 2016. Explore. Dream. Discover. Cast off the bowlines and try something new. Be silly. Be brave. Be yourself and don’t care what anyone else thinks. Be healthy. Be happy. Be more.

Bring on 2016!

Authors Helping Authors

After participating in my S.I.A. author interview feature, my fellow member of the Kinky Canadian Romance Authors group, Marysol James, asked me to participate in an interview on her blog.  Authors helping authors.  It’s a great thing.  Thanks, Marysol.

Looking for a Steamy Romance?

So, you’ve seen me wearing my urban fantasy author hat, but did you know that I also write sweet and sexy romance? The first novel I ever finished was actually a romantica.

What’s that you ask? Romantica is a hybrid of the romance and erotica genres, providing satisfaction in more ways than one. You get the HEA (happily ever after) of a romance with the sexy, steamy, sometimes kinky scenes from erotica. In otherwords, it’s a lot of fun to read!

Home AgainI will be releasing Home Again, my first foray into this genre in March 2016.

The big news today though is that I have joined forces with a stellar mix of fellow Canadian romance authors to form the Kinky Canadian Romance Author and Book Fanatics group. Kind of a long name, but we simply call ourselves #KinkyCanadianReads.
